There is an interesting discussion on /. regarding the recent ruling by an Australian Federal court that makes it illegal to link to copyright material. What's scary about the ruling is that the hosting isp was found guilty of authorizing copyright infringement along with the website owner.

Hektik arab ripping burnouts on a bike

12/08/06: Last day in Toronto.

We woke up this morning and had breakfast in the hotel then took a taxi to the Kensington Market area. There were mostly Asian dealers selling cheap luggage, sunglasses, hats, along with some fruit stands and vegan restaurants. The area was kind of trashy with a lot graffiti everywhere. Definitely not a place to go after dark.



After walking around a few minutes we decided to return our hotel by going a different route. Along the way back we stopped at a Timothy's World Coffee. We got back to the hotel with enough time to relax a few minutes before it was time to go the airport for our trip home.

What a trip! It's good to be back home.

12/07/06

After training today we decided to walk from our hotel to the CN Tower. Along the way we stopped at Eastside Marios for cheap Italian food. It was alright. On our way out of the restaurant we saw a mouse scurrying across the floor.

We bought our tickets ($21 b/ea.) nearby at a visitors bureau and made our way to the base of the CN Tower. After the quick ride up the elevator to observation deck, we made our way down a flight of stairs to the glass floor level. It wasn't all glass flooring, just a small area. It took me about 10 minutes of watching other people walking on the glass before I was able to do it myself.





After the trip to the tower we took a taxi to the Royal Ontario Museum. For $18 We saw the Italian Design exhibit, an Egyptian and Greek exhibit, an amazing midieval exhibit with suits of armour on display, and a japanese exhibit full of statues. All were very impressive and we both enjoyed seeing this museum much more than the Art Gallery of Ontario we visited last night.



After the ROM, we came back to our hotel to relax for a few minutes. The hotel staff was helpful in not only suggesting Trevor Kitchen & Bar, but they set up a reservation for us. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was energetic with all the yuppies getting loud as they consumed more drink. It was fun.

We walked around a few minutes and decided to grab a hot beverage at Second Cup, a coffee shop not far from the restaurant on Wellington.

More Toronto

After training last night, the manager at our hotel (Cosmopolitan Hotel & Spa) was nice enough to suggest an Italian restaurant for dinner. Unfortunately, it was closed. We then decided to go with Fodor's recommendation, Romagna Mia Osteria pizzeria. The waiters there were awful. The food was alright. Afterwards we were done wasting our time at this restaurant it was nine so we headed back to our hotel.

One of the other trainee's mentioned that the waiter we had last night was not bad. She she said that Torontoans make New Yorkers seem nice. Wow. I do notice walking around that the people don't seem very happy. They seem very to the point when you talk with them.

After training today we are planning to go grab a snack then onto the Art Gallery of Ontario. Then we plan to have dinner at Torito.

Toronto, Canada

I'm in Toronto this week for training. During our short twenty minute cab ride from the airport I noticed not one house. It seems as though everyone here lives in a high rise condo.






We are staying at the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Spa. And yes, it's a very nice hotel ($250/night). I have a flat screen tv in the living area of the suite and another flat screen in the bedroom. The view of Lake Ontario alongside the skyline is beautiful as well.


Yesterday we ate sushi and drank some saki at NAMI. Afterwards, we walked around and ended up at Eaton Centre. We weren't impressed and left after walking around for thirty minutes. I am not sure what we are planning to do tonight. We may try to go to a Mapleleafs game at the Air Canada Centre. Thursday we plan to visit CN Tower since we'll have a half day to explore. We are also planning to visit The Art Gallery of Ontario and possibly a few of the markets.

One other thing I noticed while walking around yesterday was that Starbucks does not have a monopoly on overpriced coffee in Toronto. There are a lot of other coffee shops. Starbucks IS here, just not everywhere like I'm used to. There are also many quaint restaurants and pubs which I wish we could try but don't have the time.
