Far Away Trains Passing By
I found Ulrich Schnauss's 2001 2 CD "Far Away Trains Passing By" at Half Price Books this weekend for $7.98. To me, it's worth much more. The music on the 2 cd set is just as good if not better than his more recent release, 2004's "Strangely Isolated Place".
You may recognize the tune "Passing By" from the movie Elizabethtown. It's an excellent song that builds towards a crescendo of layered instruments accompanied by a progressively more noisy rhythmic sound.
Far Away Trains Passing By is chill out. The Cocteau Twins-esque vocals that surface in a few tracks are subtle but break up the monotony. You have to be in the right mood to listen to chill out. In fact chill out music is probably best experienced by yourself. Like other chill out music, Far Way Trains is at times repetitive but the melodies are beautiful which keeps this cd in rotation both in my car and at work.
